Poker is a popular card game that has several varieties. The dealer distributes cards to the players and monitors their actions at the poker table. To become a good dealer in poker, you need to develop special skills and characteristics. They will help you both when playing poker with friends, and when looking for work as a professional dealer. The dealer must be able to deal cards correctly, have special skills and know the subtleties of several varieties of the game.
Different poker options: basic points
First of all, let's see what the traditional round looks like in poker games. Interestingly, the new poker variations may seem so different. So, in Omaha, your starting hand closed from opponents will be four-card, in pot-limit games you can bet the maximum bet the size of a pot, and in five-card draw poker it may seem like a game from a completely different universe. Therefore, if the question arises, how many cards are dealt in poker, then the answer will depend entirely on the variation.
But the truth is not the point. If you look closely at these games, you will notice that they are very much alike - pocket and community cards, followed by rounds of bets.
Let's take Unlimited Texas Hold'em as an example and see how someone will distribute in this game.
Poker rules: the nuances of dealing cards in games in no limit hold'em
There are several basic terms that you must understand in order to properly control the progress of the game of unlimited poker. The first is the position: regardless of the poker variation, actions always begin with a person sitting after the button and go further clockwise.
The second is pocket cards (your own), and the third are common cards that are the same for all participants in the distribution.
Who deals poker cards? This person is called a dealer or dealer and he must know a number of rules of poker hands in order to do everything right. This person is designated at the table with a special chip - the button, and has the right to the last move if he himself takes part in the distribution. Usually, after each poker game, the dealer button moves clockwise, therefore, the distributing player also changes.
As a rule, a standard 52-card deck is used, which is carefully shuffled by the dealer, after which the upper part of the deck is “burned” and goes either down the deck or in the end.
How do you distribute?
As we have already established, the distribution begins with the poker player sitting after the dealer, and you begin to deal two cards for each of the players at the table.
Since the participants of the distribution make a choice how to play in the current round (call or raise), you collect all bets. If players prefer not to continue to participate in a certain round of the current game, you collect their starting hand in a general pile for a reset, the so-called “reset”.
When everyone equalizes the bets in the current round, you give out a common board.
In the Texas Hold'em no-limit poker game, you deal three community cards face up. This is called a flop. The flop allows poker players to make assumptions about how strong their hands are and how the strength of their hands can change in the next rounds.
Again, if there is a player who chooses a raise action, his bet should correspond to the bets of other participants who want to continue the game. Players who decide to fold their starting hand move their croupier, who transfers these cards to the fold.
Actions continue as on the flop. However, on the turn, the dealer deals only one card face up.
After the button’s actions, poker players make their choice of what action to take: check, raise or call, depending on the actions that were before them. The dealer also collects starting hands from players who have refused further participation in the distribution.
This is the last street on which the dealer gives out community cards that game participants can use to collect their strongest hand in this round. The dealer deals another card face up and the action starts again with the player who sits to the left of the button or the player who is closest to him in the game clockwise.
There is a round of betting. If there are two or more players who prefer to call a raiser bet, or if all the players in the hand decide to play a check, these party members must show all their opponents their previously closed hand, starting with the one who started the last aggressive actions, that is, raised bets.
Now you know the basics of how the deal is dealt from the dealer’s point of view, and you can also try playing poker at online tables if you have never played Hold'em before. This way you get a better idea of how to play at the poker table. These are the basics of dealing cards in poker. Naturally, different rules are allowed in different versions, but you can easily master them if you already know the basics.
Before handing over the deck, it is shuffled by the dealer or by the participant in the distribution who performs his role (Baton). In institutions, shuffling is often performed by special machines, but they are expensive and are used only by poker gourmets at home. The mixing order is as follows:
- The deck is pulled down on the table, face down, so that all participants can verify that it is complete and can be used. To do this, it must be sorted by suit and rank order. This is done only before the first game horse.
- The cards are turned upside down, and the dealer randomly shuffles them on the table with circular hand movements - this process is called shemi shuffle.
- After thorough mixing, the dealer reassembles the deck into a pack. Having assembled it, he begins to shuffle in the way that he owns - there are special techniques, but to use them, you need to practice. It is important that all participants in the game always see only the shirt, and the denomination and color remain hidden from them. At least three to seven thorough mixing is required.
- Trimming - is performed by shifting part of the deck by one of the participants and then moving the upper part to the bottom. Usually a special hard red card is used, which one of the players sticks into the pile, cutting at least 1/4 of its part.
If one or several cards are accidentally dropped and opened during shuffling, this is not a mistake and does not lead to fines! Shuffling is carried out further and thereby the randomness of the sequence is restored.
The rules of distribution in poker strictly determine the issuance of cards to players. The first one is issued to the player who sits to the left of the Button. Issuance is carried out in a circle - one card to each participant in the table, until all of them get the right amount - two, three, four, etc. The latter, therefore, is laid out on the Button - the most distributing one, if the participant in the table performs the role of a croupier.
During the deal, it happens that the card opens and becomes visible to all participants of the deal. Of course, this often causes discontent among poker players, especially those who have already looked at their pocket hands and saw a strong combination. In order to avoid unreasonable discontent, it is forbidden to watch starting hands until their delivery is completed. In addition, with a randomly open card, it is allowed to re-distribute, again mixing the deck. In this case, fines on the dealer are not imposed, if they are not agreed in advance!
According to the rules of distribution in poker, players must alternately perform the role of croupier. The obligation to hand over cards is transferred every con clockwise!
Popular disciplines such as Hold'em and Omaha also use the board - community cards that are visible to all participants in the table and used by them to make combinations. Here you need to know what is the correct order of the stages of distribution in poker. The board is laid out on the table in three stages. The first calculation includes three cards (Flop), the second one (Turn) and the third is also one (River) There are no difficulties in their calculation - the dealer opens a new part of the board after the completion of the next auction. However, card burning is used here. Each time, before laying out a new card, the top of the deck is removed into the sump - it is removed from the game and is not shown to poker players at the same time.
Shuffling is often practiced before laying out each part of the board. This method is used even in some online poker rooms to prevent hacking programs, in order to find out the following cards - they will turn out to be unknown if even the attackers managed to break into the server where the sequences are generated.
In exchange games, starting hands are dealt alternately. The first exchange is carried out by a poker player sitting to the left of the Button (a nominal croupier) - in full and so on in a circle. Last of all, an exchange is made to a player who acts as a dealer in the current game.
It is important to observe the poker hand of the hand when you play the game at home. Their observance guarantees the equal position of all participants in the table and eliminates the occurrence of controversial situations.
